Ruby’s #OneMinuteStory 08 ‘The Silver Selkie’

Day 08 and our final story now the big day is here. This one is a very brief kind of sneak peek of a story we are working on about ‘The Silver Selkie’ (a selkie is a beautiful mythical creature half seal half human).

This is another #OneHundredWords story The Silver Selkie’ by Rose English.

Happy Listening.

The Silver Selkie

The shell whispered its hidden lullaby as the sun disappeared and seemed to melt into the salty sea. As the world turned, all colour drained away and the stars became visible as white dots in a dull grey sky. Before long they were sparkling upon black velvet.

The moon climbed high, leaving a silvery path upon the water. The child smiled, for there before her eyes approached a beautiful sleek silver seal. As the seal reached the shore, she raised herself up and her skin fell away, revealing a pretty lady. The child ran into her arms.

“Grandma you came.”

Ruby’s #OneMinuteStory 07 ‘Snolar Bear’

Day 07 another fun #OneHundredWords story this time about a ‘Snolar Bear’ a cross between a snowman and a polar bear by Rose English.

Happy Listening.

Snolar Bear

Bright whiteness filled the room, as I open my eyes, I am stunned to see the white snow-covered fields beyond my window.

I waste no time leaping from the bed, rushing to get ready and go outside to check that I’m not dreaming. Wrapped up warm I step into the white wonderland. I am going to make a snowman.

All starts well rolling snowballs round and round to form the body, then another for the head. Alas when I merge the two it looks nothing like a snowperson. I’ve created something unique a Snolar Bear.

Ruby’s #OneMinuteStory 06 ‘Chocolate Mice’

Day 06 a fun #OneHundredWords story about a group of chocolate mice in a very hot sweetshop by Rose English.

Happy Listening.

Chocolate Mice

On a hot sunny day, all the chocolate animals in the sweetshop laze beneath the wonderful cooling fan out of the sunlight and at the back. But the mice were restless and wanted to play.

Such silly creatures are chocolate mice. They simply do not think. Of course, the temperature was so hot that their games led to their undoing.

First their chocolate button ears slipped off, and then their liquorice tails and finally their milk chocolate bodies melted away into a gloopy puddle. Only their round little silver candy eyes remained to watch their lives slip away with sadness.

Ruby’s #OneMinuteStory 05 ‘Death of an Emperor’

Day 05 a sad #OneHundredWords story about a butterfly and although he is far from his loved ones, others in nature stay by his side so he will not be alone. ‘Death of an Emperor’ by Rose English.

Happy Listening.

Death of an Emperor

Three bees bow low in respect to the Emperor. He lay exhausted. Broken and dusty were his wings, the once bright colours muted with edges now tattered and torn. He had been blown off course by a great tempest, far away from his beloved Queen and children. Yet the bees would not leave him to die alone.

The wind calmed, and the Emperor took his last breath.  Aged wings closed for the last time. An army of ants came and carried him to the shade of the old oak, where he would rest eternally and become one with the earth.

Ruby’s #OneMinuteStory 03 ‘The Game’

Day 03 is a #OneHundredWord story, inspired once again by folktales that we have been reading. We loved the thought of a child breaking the starry sky, whilst playing a simple game.

Happy Listening.

‘The Game’ by Rose English

At the top of the world, sits Nanook; surrounded by shards of black glistening crystals, light having been extinguished.

He feels guilty – but it was just a game.

Yet he had knocked the North Star from the sky, leaving his world dim.

“Have you learned your lesson boy?’

The village elder had approached silently; the heavy darkness had muffled the sound.

“Yes father. I’m sorry’.

The chief lifted a shard, it began to shine. Throwing it up into the air, it shot off at great speed, the others followed, back into the velvet night, illuminating once more the heavens.

Ruby’s #OneMinuteStory 02 ‘The Nightingale and the Rose’

Day 02 and our ‘One Minute Story’ is from a folktale. It is also another #OneHundredWord story.

Happy Listening.

‘The Nightingale and the Rose’ by Rose English

It is said that long ago, the Nightingale could not sing, he simply squawked. One hot summers day, he saw a beautiful white rose and fell instantly in love.

From that day he was inspired to sing. It is believed that the flower would only open her petals when she heard the Nightingale’s song.

The pair were so in love that the little bird hugged the white rose so tightly a thorn stabbed through his heart, sadly killing him. However, Nightingale’s blood splashed the rose, turning her white petals red, and thus she stayed for the rest of her days.
