Young Ebenezer ~ Confronts the School Bully by Rose English

Happy Halloween to you all. As a special celebration Book 2 in the Young Ebenezer series is currently on a special Halloween Promo starting at just 99p or 99c for our dotcom friends. A children’s book, a story in verse.

‘A Halloween treat, much better than sweets.’

A time for candy and costumes,
pumpkins and ‘Trick or Treat’.
But beware of the bully
lurking just down the street.

Ebenezer is really excited! It’s his first Halloween to go out ‘Trick or Treating’. Jacob Marley is excited too, but this school bully plans to steal all the kids’ sweets. Can Eb and his friends, along with the magical clock Grandfather Time teach Jacob the error of his ways? Or is the boy doomed to a life of crime, just like his wicked father?

The story of ‘Ebenezer and the Bully’ is…

#RubyTubeDay Poetry ‘Rain’

#RubyTubeDay YouTube video of ‘Rain’

Rain.

There’s a hole in the sole
of my shoe.
There’s a hole where the water
seeps through.

And the coat that I’m wearing’s
so thin.
I can feel where the water
gets in.

And the hat on my head’s
a disgrace.
So the water it runs down
my face.

Then my gloves they are tatty
and torn.
So the water, like ice – stings
like thorns.

My whole body is withered
and old.
No wonder, this rain, makes
me cold.

#RubyTubeDay Poetry ‘The Rivers Serenade’

#RubyTubeDay YouTube video of ‘The Rivers Serenade’

The Rivers Serenade

Beneath the weeping willow tree,
I watch the butterflies, fly free.
Attracted by the meadow flowers,
that I could sit and watch for hours.
I glimpse the rivers silver shimmer,
yet here inside the world is dimmer,
amidst the gentle country sounds,
as I lay, upon the ground.

Dappled sunlight reaches through,
bringing memories old and new.
Between the slowly swaying leaves,
of this our weeping willow tree.
And as I slowly close my eyes,
and cotton candy clouds sail by.
Memories trickle then cascade,
along with the rivers serenade.

The way our teenage limbs entwined,
sending shivers through my spine.
Then once we turn we’re face-to-face,
and locked in young loves strange embrace.
And low a moment full of bliss
with the thought of our first kiss
Beneath our weeping willow tree,
entwined together you and me

#RubyTubeDay Poetry ‘A Train Ride to Brum’

#RubyTubeDay YouTube video of ‘A Train Ride to Brum’

A Train Ride To Brum.

The train rumbles & rolls
over rusty rails.
Gazing from the window,
I watch.
Seeing lush green embankments
which fade down
to dull, dark, dusty wasteland.
The trees once tall and majestic
now look sad and depleted.
They are small and skeletal,
like anorexic teenagers.
No blossom as yet fills these trees,
they currently bloom with a spectacular display of
plastic carriers,
and a vast array of other exotic waste foliage.
Reaching to the heavens they forever seek solace
in the warm spring sun.

#RubyTubeDay Poetry ‘Chocolate Treats’

#RubyTubeDay YouTube video of ‘Chocolate Treats’

Chocolate Treats
Here is a list
of chocolate treats,
from savoury
to sickly sweet.
How about some
ginger crumble?
Or try our sticky
Turkish mumble.
Perhaps white frothy
lemon tickle,
sprinkled with
choc cherry pickles?
Try chocolate with
our hazelnut fizz,
or maybe with
a raspberry whizz.
Lavender honey,
with a chocolate haze.
Or buttercup bon bons
for sunny days.
Our chocolate
pomegranate pips,
are sharp and tasty
on your lips.
Chocolate lavender
rainbow kisses,
or delicate fluffy
choc rhubarb wishes.
Try chocolate with
some rosemary and thyme,
sprinkled with
a dash of lime.
Pinky white chocolate
is our violet frost.
With crystallised petals,
it looks embossed.
Chocolate thread
through a maple crackle,
is an easy dish
to tackle.
Or if your tooth
is not so sweet,
why not try
a savoury treat?
Cheddar cheese
is sure to please,
when wrapped up
in a chocolate breeze.
Or perhaps a chocolate
covered brie,
washed down with our
chocolate and blackberry tea.
A delicate white chocolate
yarrow parfait,
is not only tasty,
but keeps sickness at bay.
To encourage sleep
within a blink,
wild parsnip in
a chocolate drink.
Will help to lull you
into sleep,
without the need
to count those sheep.
Now close your eyes
and visualise
our mini chocolate
butterflies.
