#WIP ~ A Christmas Carol with Grandfather Time

Introducing Rose English

‘A Christmas Carol with Grandfather Time’

Hello Book Lovers, it has been a while (work and the real world getting in the way). So as I am meeting lots of new people, especially over on Instagram and from the Writing Community in general I thought it about time to do a little introduction.

I am Rose English first and foremost a Read~a~holic 📚📖📚📖

Reading across many different genre I feel like I am returning to my childhood with a great passion for Children’s Books especially Picture Books. I literally swoon over the illustrations. There are so many wonderful artists out there in the world.

I am an aspiring Indie Author dabbling in short stories poetry (or poems which rhyme, I struggle reading freeverse ) and stories for children. You can check out my eclectic collection over on my Amazon Page Rose English.

#WIP ‘A Christmas Carol with Grandfather Time’

My #WIP is a picture book of ‘A Christmas Carol with Grandfather Time’ a re-telling of the Charles Dickens classic but for little ones. Young Ebenezer is not very caring and he hates sharing can a magical clock and a ghost puppy help the boy to mend his ways?

I am looking to do a #kickstarter event in the coming months to raise funds to get a larger print run on  paperback and hardback versions. Perhaps some of you lovely readers might like to Pre-Order copies to help me reach my target once the page goes live (currently not set as I have to work out costs of posting around the globe). Watch this space or check out my other social media platforms I tend to post more about children’s books on instagram @MissRubyHeart1. Please drop by and say hi.

More About Rose

My real name is Susan but as a child I had a mini library in the garden shed (library tickets included and removed from kids not returning books on time. Or it does not bear thinking about returning a book with damage!) I imagined being a writer named Rose English with books shelved under ‘E for English Rose‘ (no one can pronounce my surname  S’ari – Shari of Hungarian origin). So that is where my pen name came from.

🥼🧬🔬🧪 I love Science and attained a BSc Honours Degree in Biomedical Science which focuses on how cells, organs and systems function in the human body. Along with lots of genetics and many new technologies and advancements in the medical industry in general.

📖 📚My favourite job was School Librarian in a secondary school in Ludlow South Shropshire (a beautiful part of the country). However, life is like a book and with a turn of the page one  chapter ended and a new one began📚📖

💊🩹🩺🚑 I now work in a very different library one in my local NHS hospital checking medical equipment in and out (it pays the bills). Wye Valley NHS Trust Herefordshire.

📖 📚 Reading is my passion and I have a little sidekick named Miss Ruby Heart a character from my first published story ‘The Magic of Grandfather Christmas ‘ (it won 1st Prize in an online competition around 2014). It was published in a small anthology ‘Seasonal, Sweet, and Suspenseful’ This short story was then turned into the begining of a series called ‘The Magic of Grandfather Time’ for older readers.

Ruby likes to review children’s books (via the @mytalkingpet app)

Any questions don’t hesitate to ask I will do my best to reply as soon as possible

Calvin The Swan

National Novel Writing Month #NaNoWriMo

Did you feel the buzz around October, many of my writer friends were prepping for the big challenge of November #NaNoWriMo I myself have not written anything for a long time but after seeing a video my nephew shared I was inspired. So I signed up.

I am working on several smaller projects rather than one big novel but you can take a peek at my progress on my profile page. Find me on the main NaNo website simply click the image below.

Calvin The Swan #YouTube Part 1

As I mentioned my newphew Scott took a couple of video’s on his mobile and he gave me permission to share them. Here is Part 1.

Scott lives in a beautiful house that looks out over a man-made lake. Whilst working from home he would each day take his exercise around the lake then head home.

He loves nature, and particularly the Mute Swans that live on the lake and rather than take bread (which I am lead to believe will not harm them) Scott purchased special swan food (pellets of mainly cracked wheat & maize with added vitamins). Well you can imagine they loved them. One particular swan was especially keen.

Unbeknownst to Scott, this cob (male swan, female is a pen) actually followed him home. Now it visits daily for breakfast or whenever he feels hungry.

Scott has named the swan Calvin. He sometimes brings his mate Barbara but she is a tad rude and often hisses at Scott. But she will still eat his food.

Inspiration for a Children’s Book Series

I began the NaNoWriMo challenge on 1st November, like all the other writers. I had the idea to write about Calvin’s adventures following Scott home. Then it came to me, and I was on a roll. I wrote the first very rough draft of my new project Book 1 Calvin The Swan Prince. I simply had to begin with his birth.

I am unsure yet if this will be a picture book or a cross between a picture book and chapter book. I am still in my very early days and simply have the bare bones of the story. But I am very much enjoying writing it.

Thank you for visiting

Happy Reading

Introducing Miss Ruby Heart

Hello and thank you for joining me!

Introducing Miss Ruby Heart

Introducing ~
Miss Ruby Heart.
A red golden puppy
you will love from the start.

A little ghost dog,
a friend of Grandfather Time.
He likes to tell stories,
in rhythm and rhyme.

Miss Ruby Heart, as you have probably gathered is a ruby King Charles Spaniel, she has long silky golden red fur, with floppy ears and a cute button nose. Sadly Ruby is a little ghost dog whose story can be found in ‘The Magic of Grandfather Time’ for older readers.

Ruby is a close friend of Grandfather Time, an ancient longcase clock bestowed with a touch of magic. Together they offer guidance to children helping them to see goodness and mend their old ways, especially if ever they have been naughty (like Young Ebenezer)

Eb is very lucky to have Miss Ruby as his constant companion. Only children and the young at heart are able to see her. She is a beautiful and caring soul.
